Okay, so we're not reviewing the vid, we're reviewing the "new" Fuel. kk, I'll play! The windy reviewer with all the inside scoop on Carl Bell's people skills isn't seeing or telling a an entire picture, suprising for someone that has so much (20+ years of experience). Bell's been the heart of the band, his arrangements, diversty while maintaining a signature sound, amazing lyrics, his work ethic, his leadership. A big name band is a business, don't forget there's a label to please. Miller, as good as he is has never been to Fuel what Carl's been and neither has Brett. Of course it's not a one man show, but leading this band has always been Carl Bell and with millions in sales under his belt and after hearing Wasted Time and Gone I'd say he's done a great job. Some may not look past a frontman, sometimes I don't, this band is the exception, congrats Carl!

BRETT SCALLIONS (The Original Legendary Voice) left for good reasons...to play Bass and sing backup for The X's out of New York. (Think Queens of the Stoneage meets FuManchu...hot grooves...instant grunge...and loads of pure adrenaline...definately more towards the "Harder" more "Underground" with the "Won't Back Down" vibe of the original FUEL thrown in for Hard-Rock/Pop cred. Great stuff. Bretts talent runs deep along with The X's monster hooks and extra crunchy modern throw-back to the best of the underground 90's 80's and 70's rock and punk bands that most have never had the chance to hear with their ear glued down tight to the revolving radio dial.
(If you can take constructive input from a veteran singer-songwriter-guitarist-producer and more with 20 years experience), I can't blame Brett or the last drummer for leaving really. Carl needs to learn a little give and take or else he will lose Toryn Green as well. Yeah, I know, technically, the drummer was asked to leave, but if you knew what I knew regarding the ins and outs of that whole fiasco, you'd fully understand my disappointment with Carls "people skills", not necessarily his musical talents. I love you Carl, really, but you've got to realize FUEL is a "band" not a "one man show". Loyalty goes both ways. I met and spoke with you briefly and with your "Last" Drummer mostly during the "Sunburn" tour and ironically my interview was on the topic of "What does it take to make and keep a band successful?" Your previous drummer hinted FUEL or any successful band would only continue with the original lineup if they continued to respect eachothers contributions and go out of their way to find common ground and enjoy being around eachother...seeing that blow up was quite a prophesy I might add. They had a great drummer, a great vocalist/guitarist and they both are gone, because of mainly one person...Carl Bell. After it is all said and done, most will not know those details and fall in love once again with FUEL, despite it all, due to the acquisition of two excellent talents themselves, Tommy Stewart/Drums, former "jungle beat" extraordinaire himself and of course the man you and I will soon love very close to the great Brett Scallions...Toryn Green, who is the perfect "new" frontman for FUEL that gives props to Bretts style all the while forging his own tunnels of greatness for all the rest of us to only listen and wonder...who is this guy? And, how come I've never heard of Toryn Green before?
TORYN GREEN, NEW Lead Vocalist for Fuel and previous vocalist for Something To Burn and Patience Worth, he will eventually pull FUEL back up into the top of the charts once again. Judging by the songs on the FUEL SITE www.myspace.com/fuel ...Gone and Wasted Time are excellent tracks to start with. Gone is a well-oiled rock induced punching bag of goodies and Wasted Time is the perfect FUEL song for all you lovers of the mellower-rock side that we have all come to admire. From what I hear, Toryn also pulls it off live. Check out a sample on the "official" FUEL site www.fuelweb.com where you can see him in the studio dropping a track for the TV show EXTRA with near perfection and power that is only equalled by Brett himself.
Thank you Carl for going with your gut after only auditioning 100 vocalists...or is it 1,000?! Eitherway, I believe FUELIES will not be happy Brett is gone and the previous drummer, but they will appreciate the fact that you went out to find talents that compliment what they already brought to the table without sacrificing that FUEL sound and show we know and love...BRAVO! In the end, this potentially career ending misque by Carl ended up being saved in the final minutes by a heads-up play by none other than the man himself. So in the end everyone wins...right Brett?!
